I conducted a test of the Proporta Solar Charger during my “Micro vacation” On Gotland during this past weekend. This is my test protocol:
My journey starts on the morning of the Thursday 17th, The Proporta is charged in a window for 2 days.
Arrives in Gotland at 14:30 at home at my friend’s place my daughter needs to charge her Nokia 6280 (it started beeping), so she charges it fully. And after her I charge my N95 (had only 2 bars) fully. No problems the Proporta stands the test.
I put the Proporta in an window and it stays there until next morning.
Friday 18th
Cloudy day but I hope the Proporta still can charge-
Working on my 3d report as an S60 ambassador, answers some mail and update my Swedish blog with some photos, calls some calls about 15 minutes.
Out on town, films an sekuens that goes to Flixwagon. Sends and receives about 8 sms
Back at another friends place I take a nap and when I wake up my N95 is down to one bar. Have to charge it with my batterycharger when the Proporta is in the other end of town.
Evening, back at my friends place (took some photos and looked at some flix at YouTube) I start charging with the Proporta but dies on me after about 15 minutes. Put my N95 on charging during night.
Saturday 19th
Proporta in window and it’s a really sunny day so it will be perfect. I go for charging my N95 before I leave at 11.
The usual morningritual, sms, mail, checking blogs etc. my N95 down to 2 bars again. Charges with Proporta and it works fine.
Away all day, taking photos, short video and one to Flixwagon. Sms….well you know the drill!
Back home at 21:00 starting a new charge with my Proporta, but it turns down on me after about 10 minutes. My friend tells me one of his sons used it to charge his Nokia in the evening. So there’s the explanation.
Monday 20th
Returning home to Stockholm
Conclusion:
To be sure your Proporta will be able to charge fully it needs at least a partly sunny day, but then it works like a charm. I will not say this a totally scientifically conducted test, but for me it was good to see that it’s possible to use the Proporta Solar charger as a compliment when your out camping, but you can’t rely only on it. You need to have other backup possibilities such as an emergency battery charger.
