I’m going to talk a little about Social Awareness now. As you know there’s a
lot of people that blog’s and also a lot of them that reads blog’s. There’s an
undeniable fact that people now rather read blog’s than they read newspapers.
Maybe it’s out of curiosity or simple that we got sick and tired from the news
flow consisting of evil, war and violence.
My own theory is that what’s drives us to read what other people blog about is
also a curiosity to have an insight in others life’s. Whatever makes us read blog’s
I’m convinced that the blog’s are here to stay…. At least for a while.
Now back to my issue for the day: Micro blogging!
There’s a lot of ways to micro blog and will only cover a few, i.e. the ones I use. The ways for you to micro blog is: text, photo, video and sound.
The systems:
Jaiku - Text based system
Twitter - Text based system
Pownce - Text based system, also other formats
Tumblr - Text based system, also other formats
Flixwagon –
Video blogging
QIK – Video blogging
LastFM – Share what you are listening to and discuss it with others.
I will now comment a bit about this different systems.
Jaiku: The first time I got in contact with micro blogging was when
I started to look around on the Net to find articles about Nokia N95 which was
the next mobile phone that I wanted to get. And what I could see was that a lot
of the bloggers I was reading spoke warmelyy about Jaiku. So when I finally got
my N95 I just had to set up an account with Jaiku, but got really disappointed
whn I found out that you needed an invite to use it. Well I have never been the
kind of guy that gives up, so I started to search for way to get an invite.
And on http://jaikuinvites.com/
I found that possibility to get invited to Jaiku. My sponsor is and Danish guy
(Per, will always be grateful to you! Thanks once again!)
Finally after signing up, I found out that there was ways to get feeds from
your other sources into Jaiku (like your blog(s), Flickr, LastFm etc.). But for
me was the most important thing that there is a client for N95 (S60 phones).
Today I use Jaiku as my main source/tool to micro blog. (Ps. I’ve got invites if somebody is seriously interested, but you really need to be serious!)
You can update Jaiku via Webb, Mobile,
IM.
Twitter: Twitter was the first service I connected to mainly
because it’s an open system, you don’t need an invite to sign up with them. And
there’s a simple client for it too.
Twitter is a simpler system than Jaiku, but I use twitter almost as frequent as
Jaiku. You can update Twitter via Webb, Sms and mobile.
Pownce: I have only been signing up with Pownce and checked around
a bit, and I don’t feel it will be one of my main sources to use. But maybe you
are?
You can use it form you mobile, via browser on this address: http://mobile.pownce.com/
You can update Pownce via Webb, Pc-client and Sms.
Tumblr: The same goes for Tumblr so it’s to early to make any verdict. You can update Tumblr via Webb, Email or by singing in to you own Tumblr site, the address looks like this: http://yourname.tumblr.com/mobile
Flixwagon: Video blogging on a high level! I totally love Flixwagon, and I haven’t been using it that much….yet, but I will use it more in the future. Hat I can see is that Flixwagon has better quality than QIK which is their closest competitor. A really cool thing is that you can chat in real-time with your viewers. It’s simply Ubercool! Oh yes, there’s (of course) a client for your S60 phone!
QIK: Seriously it’s also good, but can not match Flixwagon for me at least! Client for S60 phones.
LastFm: I have already talked about LastFm and that article is Here!
One of my conclusions I have to form all this is: How public does one want to be? And what use can YOU get from micro blogging? For me the answer is simple and clear because I want to find as mobile solutions for both my professional and social networking and from my point of view Jaiku, Twitter and all the other tools are just means to be used in that respect and also great fun when you start to get a bigger network.
